Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Adult Group
Under the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt imprint, the adult group publishes approximately eighty new hardcover books each year, and approximately ninety trade paperbacks under the Mariner imprint. HMH publishes treasured classics, such as Virginia Woolf’s A Room of One’s Own and E.M. Forster’s A Passage to India, as well as award winning titles including Timothy Egan’s The Worst Hard Time and José Saramago Blindness. Houghton The Mifflin Harcourt Adult Group continues to introduce new authors of inspiring works of fiction and nonfiction to readers around the world.
Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Reference Group
The reference division continues to publish the American Heritage® dictionaries and other authoritative and popular books about language, as well as books for The Old Farmer’s Almanac, Larousse and Chambers. The American Heritage® collection has a wide selection of reference material for adults and children that range from the First Dictionary to the College Dictionary to the Dictionary of Business Terms. In addition, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt distributes a number of cookbooks including Ruth Reichl’s Gourmet Cookbook, and the new favorite Hello, Cupcake by Karen Tack and Alan Richardson.

Clarion Books became an imprint of Houghton Mifflin in 1979. Clarion’s award-winning authors include David Wiesner, Linda Sue Park, Karen Cushman, Katherine Paterson, and Gary Schmidt.
